Kibworth Mead Academy, previously known as Kibworth High School, and prior to that Kibworth Grammar School, has a long and illustrious history and is known to be one of the oldest schools in England. Records show evidence of the school having been in existence since 1359, following a charter where Robert Chapman of Kibworth Harcourt and Roger de Stanesby of Smeeton Westerby handed over their land and money to a group of Trustees, with the apparent purpose of establishing a Free School. Originally this school was based in Kibworth Church and private houses, which was common for schools at this time, before a purpose-built schoolhouse was built around 1630. In 1725 it was relocated to the newly-built Kibworth Grammar School hall. Due to its increasing popularity and resulting increase in numbers, it eventually outgrew this site and was based on five separate sites around the village prior to its move to the current Smeeton Road site in 1993.
In 1957 Bernard Elliott, wrote ‘A History of Kibworth Beauchamp Grammar School’. This book gives an interesting and profound insight into the history of the School, based, in part, on an earlier history by Rev. J. B. Hildebrand, published in 1865.
